Thermal imaging has many uses. For example, firefighters use it to see through smoke, find people and locate the base of a fire. With the current drive to meet carbon reduction targets, the efficiency of our energy generation, supply and usage is coming under ever closer scrutiny. The use of Infra Red Cameras allows us to remotely monitor buildings, transformers, junctions and cables to identify potential problems and sources of energy leakage. With thermal imaging, power line maintenance technicians are able to locate overheating joints and parts, a telltale sign of their imminent failure. Where thermal insulation becomes faulty, civil engineers can see thermal signatures that indicate leakage of heat that enable improvement in heating and air conditioning systems.
